Greek and Latin Roots Online Course for English Vocabulary Prep: ISEE, SSAT,  PSAT, SAT, or GRE
This 6-week e-correspondence course, based on Greek and Latin roots, will help you learn specific entrance-exam vocabulary (the course can also be tailored for professionals wishing to increase their vocabulary).   The verbal sections on these exams are primarily vocabulary tests, so knowledge of vocabulary is a sine qua non for superior performance.  The course not only covers an extensive array of English vocabulary based on Greek and Latin roots, which is the most efficient way to study for the largest lexicon in the world, but also works on writing skills, an essential component of the new SAT.  Please see the instructor's Greek and Latin root words blog for examples of the power of word origins.

Instructor Information

Your teacher will be Brett Lawrence Brunner, M.A., B.S. (hon.), President of Star Nemeton EI.  Mr. Brunner has been teaching Latin and English vocabulary in private, college-prep schools for seventeen years. He spent eleven years at Saint Mary's Hall in San Antonio, TX, where he presided as the chair of the Language Department in addition to teaching Latin, etymology, philosophy, and SAT verbal-prep courses. He designed a course in Greek and Latin etymology in the mid 90's which he taught for four years, and, due to a lack of comprehensive etymology textbooks, created his own, Word Empire, which is distributed nationwide. He spent the academic year of 2000-2001 on sabbatical, finishing Word Empire, and completed the third edition, Word Empire III: Clarity, in the fall of 2006. He holds an undergraduate honors degree from UW Madison, and an M.A. in English from the University of Virginia; he has continued his studies in Latin at the University of Georgia at Athens. He was awarded the prestigious Master Teacher's award at Saint Mary's Hall in the fall of 2003, and was named Teen Ink's Educator of the Year in 2005.  He regularly presents his vocabulary methodology at conferences nationwide, the most recent being at the American Classical League Conference at Vanderbilt University.  He currently is teaching Latin at Tandem Friend's School in Charlottesville, VA.
